Wilson Auditorium

A large and innovative auditorium for Wilson High School in Tacoma, Washington, it is noteworthy in particular for its flexibility by using a massive and completely soundproof bi-parting wall, developed by Willis and Associates firm with assistance from the Ford Foundation. The movable, 75 ton wall can be used to divide the full auditorium space into three medium-sized lecture halls (seating 150 each) and a small auditorium (seating 450). This can be accomplished, using a quarter horsepower motor, in four minutes. Opened, the room holds 900.
